Family Engagement Month: The month of November is Family Engagement month; a time to recognize and celebrate the important role of families in the education and well-being of their children. It is an opportunity for families, schools and the community to reflect upon how to promote and strengthen family engagement.

Important Reminders: Lottery Applications for the 2022-2023 School Year are now available! If you have a child or sibling that will turn five years old by August 31, 2022, please complete the attached form and return to the main office or go online at https://learningfirstcharter.org/admission/ . The application deadline is March 2, 2022. All applications require a birth certificate and two proofs of address. Reminder, a new application must be completed for any child that is on the current waitlist.

Learning First Happenings: We are having a school wide competition where each grade level competes with the other to bring in the most canned foods/non-perishable items. The grade with the most items will get a special treat. Each week Ms. Philius will stop by each grade level to get an updated count of canned goods/donations. The last day to bring in your donations is Thursday, November 18th. All donations will go to CENTRO- Great Brook Valley Pantry on November 19th.
Grades 7 & 8 will be attending a STEM experience at WPI. The grades will be divided in half and attend on different through December 1st. They will leave for the campus after 9:00 AM, 15 minute STEM presentation, 45 minute STEM activity, 20 minute STEM presentation and a 30 minute campus tour. Students will then head back to the school and eat lunch upon arrival. Permission slips will go home at the end of the month.
Parent Guild Fall Fundraiser is Texas Roadhouse E-Gift cards. Your child was given a flyer yesterday. Please look for it in their backpack. The fundraiser is 100% virtual, below is the link that allows you to place orders. The following link can be used to place your order. Ask family, friends, co-workers and post on your social media page. There are prizes for all levels of sales. All orders must be placed by November 23rd.

The Specials Team invites all families and friends to join us for the “Taste of Specials” virtual showcase this December! Hop on our showcase night virtually to meet the art and health teachers and get a taste of what our LFCPS scholars have been working on in specials classes this semester! Stay tuned for more information as we get close to the month of December. We hope to see you there!
Extracurricular Activities: Girls’ Basketball practices are Monday and Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 PM. Parent pick up is on Gage Street at 6:00 PM sharp. Please encourage your student athlete to bring an extra water bottle to practice.
Thank you to all who attended Boys’ Basketball tryouts. The results were posted in the JA hallways today. Basketball practice will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-6:00 PM. Pick-up is at the Gage St entrance at 6:00 PM sharp. Our first practice is Tuesday, November 9th. There will be no practice Thursday November 11 due to Veterans Day.
Stomp Practice is on Fridays from 12:45-4:00 PM sharp. Parent pick-up is on Eastern Ave. Please remember your $2.00 dues.
Reminders from the School Nurse:
- If your child has a fever, vomiting or diarrhea they must stay home until they are symptom free for 24 hours without medication.
- Allergy season is among us! If your child has seasonal allergies please give them medication at home, as we do not provide it at school.
- Please continue to send in physical forms and remember to send your child with a mask each day.
- If your child was sent home in school nurses office pants to please send them back in. They have a yellow tag with red writing. The tag says LFCPS.
- The bubblers are still closed. Please send your child to school with water each day.
JA Guidance (grades 6-8):Grade 8 Parents- Please be sure to check your email regularly as Mrs. Moore has sent multiple emails with school announcements, webinars, and important dates as well.

Community Connections: Worcester Art Museum in partnership with the India Society of Worcester is holding its annual Diwali: The Festival of Light on Sunday, November 7th, from 10:00 AM- 4:00 PM. This is a FREE community event and is the most popular of India’s national holidays that brings families and communities together. Activities will include Diwali dance and music, lamp lighting, a Saree fashion show and much more.
Jubilee Christian Church is giving back to communities and families in need at their 3 locations with a Turkey Drive Giveaway. Families who register for the Turkey Giveaway will receive a box full of thanksgiving goodies including a Turkey, stuffing, and some of the usual fixings. Pick-up will be on November 13th at any of their 3 locations. When you register, be sure to choose whether you will be picking up from the Boston, Stoughton, or Worcester location so they can ensure enough supplies at each location.
The Discovery Museum, located at 177 Main St. in Acton, MA, is FREE on the first Friday Night of each month throughout the school year, from 4:30 PM- 7:30 PM. Explore the Museum, Discovery Woods and Tree house. Reservations are required and can be made up to 10 days in advance.
The Department of Transitional Assistance has partnered with Mass Cultural Council to offer free or discounted admissions to many of the Commonwealth’s museums and cultural institutions through the EBT Card to Cultural Program. Residents who receive DTA benefits can get discounted admissions by showing their EBT card through 2021.
Here are a few of the organizations participating in the program:
- Broad Meadow Brook Conservation Center & Wildlife Sanctuary- Mass Audubon- Free admission for up to 4 people per EBT card.
- EcoTarium- Present your EBT card for a discounted $2.00 per person for up to 4 people per card. Admission fee must be paid in cash.
- Old Sturbridge Village- $3.00 adult and youth standard daytime admission up to four people per EBT card or WIC card.
- The Hanover Theater- 4 tickets to most events at $8.00 per person.
- Tower Hill Botanic Garden- $2.00 general admission for up to 4 guests.
- Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary- Mass Audubon- Free admission for up to 4 people per card.
- Worcester Art Museum- Free admission
- Worcester Historical Museum- $2.00 admission
