Important MCAS update!!!!We are scheduled to begin taking MCAS the week of May 17th (see schedule below). The Department of Education has communicated that we will be expected to administer testing to REMOTE students as well as our in person students, so we will be communicating with families of remote students over the next week to ensure that you are prepared to proctor MCAS in your home. Please be vigilant in checking your emails and class dojo messages, as well as the newsletter for updates as we will have information to relay to you over the next week. Thank you.

Bus Registration Update: AM bus 60 is now bus 4. PM bus 59 is now bus 56. Please call the main office If you have completed an application late and have not received your bus stop information.

Bus routes are created by the Worcester Public School’s Transportation Department based on the information provided by families when registering.

Anyone that needs bus transportation but has not submitted the online registration form should do so as soon as possible.

4)       You will need to complete this process for each LFCPS student in your household.

Message from the Nurse:  This week we had 1 positive case of Covid-19 in school.  Anyone that is considered a close contact has been notified.  Please remember to keep your child home if they are experiencing any sickness and/ or fever. Food Service: Breakfast and Lunch is available to all in-person students at no cost.

Bulk meal pick up will be available for remote learning students until the end of the year.

Bulk meal pick up is available for Remote students only on Wednesdays from 4pm-5:30pm.

Kindergarten Registration: Any family that has received an acceptance letter for Kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year should contact Sally Ustaitis at (508)799-7500 x1031 to schedule an appointment to register.

Late Lottery Applications: We are now accepting applications for our late lottery held in June. All applications will be for the 2021-2022 school year. Student Support Department:  IMPORTANT, throughout the school year the Student Support Departmentmay be emailing/mailing documents such as IEP’s, Evaluation Consents & 504 documents to parents labeled Frontline.  When these documents are received the parent/guardian must read, sign and submit the documents online or by mail or contact Learning First with any questions or concerns.  If you have questions, please contact the Student Support Administrative AssistantMs. Andino atcandino@learningfirstcharter.orgor leave a message with the main office at 508-799-7500. 

 CONTEST TIME! We know LFCPS is a ‘Cool School’ but now we want to hear why our students think so! Attached is a flyer with information to enter this contest for a chance for students to win a free Target Gift Card!

                Entries should be submitted directly to their teachers anytime between now and Thursday, May 14th. There will be time allotted during Open Circle to work on entries in school but students may also create something at home if they prefer.

Winners will be announced by no later than Friday, May 28th.

8th grade families: Please see the email that Mrs. Moore sent out to all families and students this week about Tech and WPS letters and details on the high school enrollment and registration process.

Students on IEP’s or receiving MSA (EL) services MUST register at the PIC. 

If you are accepted to a school you have applied to, you will need to follow all of the directions they send you, but you don’t need to use this link. 

Once you have made your decision and you enroll in high school, Please let Mrs. Moore know which school your child will be attending so she can deliver their records after graduation. 

 

Community Connections:  The Latino Education Institute at Worcester State University would like to invite your middle school students and their families to this year’s AVANZA STEM Expo, Saturday, May 22 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at WSU. Registration link: https://forms.gle/VDJZzbH58Nb8Nas27.

This will be an in-person event full of fun and engaging activities to promote STEM education. Please help us spread the word by distributing the two flyers attached to this email.  Students and parents can register using the link provided above.

A Vaccine Equity Clinic is taking place this Saturday, May 9th, from 8:00am – 4:00pm on the Worcester Common behind city Hall, 455 Main St. This is a FREE walk up vaccine clinic for individuals that fall within the Covid-19 vaccine equity initiative eligibility guidelines that focus on 20 prioritized communities and those disproportionally impacted by Covid-19 such as;

  • Black, Indigenous, people of color Latin individuals
  • Individuals who do not speak English, or who prefer to speak in another language.
  • Individuals who do not have access to public transportation or who have barriers getting to a vaccination site.
  • Individuals who do not feel comfortable receiving the vaccine in a traditional healthcare setting.
  • Individuals with disabilities and those who have access and functional needs.
  • Individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Individuals with mental illness and/ or residents with substance use disorder.

Emergency Rental Assistance Program: The Department of Housing and Community Development recently launched the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP), a new funding mechanism to disburse state and federal funding resources for tenants and landlords to avoid evictions and maintain household stability throughout the COVID-19 emergency.  Go to https://www.mass.gov/info-details/emergency-housing-assistance-during-covid-19 for more information.

                The Worcester Community Fridges provide free food at three different locations around Worcester. They can be found at 910 Main Street, 300 Southbridge Street and 44 Portland Street. Anyone from the Worcester Community can access the food that is available at these locations. They also accept donations of fresh produce, unopened frozen foods, packaged dairy and canned goods.
