Looking to get out and do some hiking with the family? Purgatory Chasm, located at 198 Purgatory Rd. Sutton, is a perfect spot! The Chasm Loop Trail has the rock formations that this state park is famous for. Small coves, huge rocks to climb over and around and beautiful scenes as you work your way down the chasm. This is a short trail, only about .5 miles, and it is very doable with a family.

The Charley Loop trail is a bit longer but is a more traditional woodsy trail. The Purgatory also features pavilions, a playground, and picnic tables and grills so that families can make a day of this hike. The hours are 6:30am -7:00pm daily. Parking is $5.00 for MA vehicles.

Located in Littleton, MA at 300 King St., just 30 miles out of Worcester, the Castle in the Trees Playground is worth the trip! The playground was redone in the fall of 2016 with trek-like materials. The park has many play areas for creative/ Imaginative play and for sitting and picnicking.

Worcester has some great parks for children to run around and explore! Coes Park is sectioned into two, fenced in areas. One for the bigger kids and one for the little ones, although the younger ones can find lots to do and explore in the older kid’s area making this a great park for siblings. You can also take a hike around Coes Pond or enjoy lunch next to the water.

Cristoforo Colombo Park, also known as East Park on Shrewsbury St., is a 16 acre park with walking trails, ball fields and playgrounds. The splash pad does not open up until the end of June.

Green Hill Park has a playground, picnic areas and trails for walking. The farm is currently closed due to Covid-19.

Holmes Field is an 8-acre park located on Plantation Street. It features an accessible playground with areas for ages 2-5 and 5-12 rubber safety surfacing, two tennis courts and two separate playgrounds with accessible structures for children of all ages. You’ll also find ample seating areas to relax and unwind while the kids burn off some energy.
