July 1: School Name Changes to Learning First Charter Public School
Dear Grade 8 Families,
With all the uncertainty that the end of the year has brought, I am excited to say that we will be celebrating the eighth grade students with a drive up celebration. On Friday, June 12, 2020, from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM, families will be able to drive along Eastern Ave. while our staff cheers them on! As vehicles pull up to the door, students will receive a graduation bag! Students MUST remain in the car at all times and wait for a staff member to deliver the bag to your car. In order to do this we MUST follow all compliance with social distancing for your safety and all others.
We know this is not an ideal graduation, but your child’s hard work needs to be recognized. Graduating eighth grade and going to high school is a rite of passage that we need to celebrate! If you are not able to make the event, we will hold onto your child’s graduation bag until the fall.
Sincerely,
Mrs. DeVito,
Head of School Grades 4-8
SLC update: Your child’s T2 SLC will be printed and sent out with their T3 SLC
Your child will be receiving an SLC for T3 based on the Department of Education guidelines for grading while participating in remote learning. They will receive a grade for each core subject (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies as well as an overall Special Area) Below you will see the breakdown of scoring:
Credit (C)– Your child participated in most aspects of remote learning.
Partial Credit (PC)– Your child participated in some aspects of remote learning.
No Credit (NC)- Your child did not participate in any aspects of remote learning.
We understand that learning opportunities have looked different for families, so please be sure to reach out to your child’s teacher to discuss any offline learning that has been completed to ensure proper grading. We are here to work with you and this is best done with open communication!
Survey: An automated survey was sent to parents phones this week pertaining to home internet access. If you were unable to answer the survey please contact the Main Office (508) 799-7500. Chromebooks have been ordered for each child in the school. We will reach out to families about distribution after they arrive.
SEMSAPAC: -Quarantine has introduced many changes to our and our children’s lives. Parents are now expected to oversee their children in academics, chores, meals, and playtime. You are managing your children’s behavior all day long. At the same time, many parents have to maintain a productive work day at home.
So, how do you balance it all? Now more than ever, families need support to help themselves and their children to weather the current COVID-19 storm.
Although social distancing is imperative for contending with this global pandemic, parents everywhere are craving connection and resources. Come and connect with staff and other families on Friday, June 12, 2020, at 6:00 -7:00 pm Via ZOOM to share ideas and resources and let’s weather this COVID-19 storm together.
