Learning First Charter Public School
Newsletter April 1, 2022
Dear Caregivers,
Next week MCAS testing will begin in grades 3-8. We know that this can be anxiety producing for many students, however, we know they are capable and have the knowledge they need to be successful. Tests of this nature don’t tell us everything we need to know about a student or school. It provides a snapshot in time. Although it is a snapshot, it reflects the progress your child has made and our school as a whole. For this reason, it is important that students put forth their best effort and apply the many skills and strategies taught to them through the years.
It is very important that students be present for testing and arrive at school on time. We encourage families to avoid making appointments or dismissing students early on testing days.
Helpful tips to support your learner:
* Have them get plenty of rest the night before (aim for 8 hours!)
* Remind them to eat before school, or grab a breakfast when they enter in the morning.
* Reinforce that there will be questions that they will know right away (easy) and some they will need to work through (challenging) and that is 100% normal with any test.
* Let them hear from you that they are smart, capable and prepared for success!
If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s Head of School
Brianne Padden – grade 3
Tina DeVito- grades 4-8
Mask Mandate: On March 7, 2022, the mask mandate for all students and staff was lifted and is no longer a requirement. Student and staff that feel more comfortable wearing a mask may do so but the school is unable to provide them with one. Please be sure to send your child with a mask if they choose to wear one.

JA Guidance (Grades 6-8): Today is April 1st! That means all of the deadlines have been met for high school and now we wait to see what happens in the Career and Tech Ed lotteries! Good luck to all of our 8th graders who applied out! Please check your emails for the times, dates and means of accessing the lotteries so that you can attend if you wish. Watch your statuses in your portal to see if they change and check your emails for any letters during April vacation week!
This is a reminder that as Trimester 2 grades go out, students must be passing Math and ELA with a 65 or higher to be eligible for the lottery at both Tech and the WPS pathways. So check those SLC’s!
Reminders from the School Nurse: This week we had no cases of Covid-19 in our school. If your student was a close contact then you were notified by the school nurse. It is not required for your child to receive a Covid-19 vaccine, however if your child has had it and you are willing to let us know it would be appreciated and helpful in cases when we need to do contact tracing.
Stay healthy! ~Nurse Sarah and Sammy
